Texas State Technical College offers
a certificate and associate degrees in Food Service and Culinary Arts. As a Food Service / Culinary Arts graduate, you can expect an exciting career filled with flexibility and professional rewards. FSC graduates have responsibilities ranging from menu planning, nutrition, scheduling, sanitation and safety. As a graduate of the program, you may hold titles such as cook, sous chef, kitchen supervisor, production supervisor, assistant manager, manager trainee, food and beverage director or baker.
Food service, the nation’s largest retail employer, accounts for three out of every ten retail workers. Projections for the next eight years also place the food service industry among the occupations with the largest job growth. Those specifics point to outstanding employment opportunities for skilled food service professionals. Add Texas Restaurant Association statistics showing $40,000, including bonuses, as the average salary for restaurant managers and you have the formula for exceptional careers. Additional factors make careers in food service appealing. Americans spend more than fifty percent of their food budgets eating out, and that percentage increases daily. Industry growth … excellent earning potential … future development prospects … all point to exciting and rewarding careers—careers like those you can prepare for in Texas State Technical College’s Food Service / Culinary Arts program!

Thank you sooooo much ily!

High schools or colleges?

I googled for performing arts high school, and the only one is Boston Arts Academy.

In Mass.:
-Walnut Hill Boarding Arts high school for Ballet and classical music
-Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School

I go to a performing arts high school in nyc. It’s PPAS, and it is a wonderful school! I assume you want to do dance, so make sure that dance is something you think of seriously because it’s not all fun and games, but serious work.

Good LUCK!

I’m looking into getting in a really good Art school and i’m wondering what some of the very best are?

I was looking around in NYC and found some really good ones. But any other suggestions are wanted. Thank you.

Academy of Art University is excellent. I just got my BFA there, they are WASC accredited, which means classes are transferable. Every semester they are always upgrading the facilities, programs, activities. New buildings all the time, new majors on occasion.

I did makeup effects, got my BFA in Sculpture and collaborated with the film dept all the time. Wonderful school, tons of resources, incredible contacts and opportunities.

They have tons of majors, too many to list. Illustration, 3D, Interior Design, Green Design, Sculpture, Toys, Fashion, Motion Pictures and Film, Painting, etc. Whether you study commercial or fine art, they have all the resources you need to pursue art professionally.

Thanks to my contacts there, I landed the a key position on an independent film starring Oscar Winner Martin Landau. Some of my friends in 3D are with companies like ILM and Pixar. My film friends are working for ad agencies, production companies, and directors on big projects. It’s only a matter of inspiration and hard work. I’ve never met so many talented individuals and am glad I chose AAU. Surrounding myself in all the people and all the info I absorbed made a huge difference.

Any questions, I can put you in touch or direct you to the info you need. You want to study art, you can live art and study it at University level. Great social events, great networking, easy to step into for newbies, but lots of demanding pro level stuff to get you where you want to be. Incredible guest speakers. I learned so much!

Edit: I realize it’s across the country, but I’ve got friends from school that came from everywhere to get here: Japan, Malaysia, India, England, New Zealand, New York, Wisconsin, Seattle, LA. If you’re interested, it’s a great school.

I apologize for spelling a word incorrectly and not taking the time to be completely formal.
Funny thing is I’m in Accelerated English.

They are just as important at an art school as they are at any other school. You should choose extracurricular activities that correspond with the field that you hope to go into, so you should probably look into joining an art club or a photography club or even theater or something like that, you wouldn’t necessarily have to act if that wasn’t your cup of tea but maybe you could help paint sets or something like that. They don’t even have to be school related activities if you can find some kind of art club or theater to join outside of school that will look good on your application as well, Any kind of artistic extracurricular activity that you can do will definitely give you an advantage when a the school is deciding who to accept and who to reject. Good Luck!

Social Welfare Department, this is an initiative where Art of Living courses will be taught in special schools across Mumbai, Thane and Nashik.

The aim is to reach out to differently-abled children, help them cope with special needs and raise their self-esteem and confidence. According to a 2001 Govt. Census survey, disabled children constitute 2.13% of the total population. These children have been diagnosed with different disabilities — muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, deafness and mental retardation. Many of these children come from economically underprivileged backgrounds and face socio-economic challenges.

The program

Art of Living’s ART Excel (All Round Training for Excellence) and the YES! (Youth Empowerment Seminar for youth) have been adapted to address the needs of special children. These courses have already started in Mumbai. Shares the project co-ordinator, Richa Gupta: “I was passing by a street one day and saw a mentally challenged child. I wondered what these children needed. The next day, I happened to meet an official from the Maharashtra Social Welfare department and he said, ‘Why don’t you do something for these childrem?’ And we began teaching the Art Excel.” She adds, “H H Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was my inspiration. I never saw the children’s disability. I only saw what I could do for them.”

A group of 21 teachers joined hands and started teaching in schools across Mumbai. The children are taught light yoga and stretching exercises to release stress. Games and activities are used to stimulate their creativity and enthusiasm. Social skills, leadership training, peer pressure and handling negative emotions are issues which are dealt with in the workshop. In a fun and light atmosphere, the children not only release negative emotions and relax but also learn vital life skills.

‘Once the workshops started, we realised how special every child is. Each one of them had some special ability, some great quality’, says Richa. Anuja Gaitonde, another teacher found the children to be extremely enthusiastic. She shares, ‘They were eager to learn and they learnt fast.’

A few schools have even began conducting follow-up sessions where these children do yoga, meditate and play together.

“I feel less aggressive now’

The young stars have much to say themselves. Rubina Zayed, 11, who is partially blind, felt her confidence and enthusiasm levels soar after doing the Art Excel and said that her eye problem was no longer a constraint. Polio-affected Neha Parab, 14, felt calm and relaxed: “The Sudarshan Kriya has helped me mentally and physically.”

Through sign gestures, 11-year Zafar Khan shared how the Yes! course gave him a direction in his life. “Being deaf and dumb, I would feel angry and behave aggresively with my family members. I feel there is a change in my behavior, I feel less aggressive now.”

Reaching out to teachers

The schools are holding Art of Living Part 1 courses for the teaching and non-teaching staff members as well. The course has lent the participants happiness, enthusiasm, efficiency and relaxation which are vital for any teacher, but even more so for those teachers who work with special children. Pravin, a staff member of Shivaji Park School for Deaf and Dumb, says he is now happier: “I used to get suicidal tendencies but not anymore.” Pravin is deaf and dumb himself and teaches art to students, who have the same condition as him.

“I think being relaxed is a great contribution to my work because dealing with special kids required immense patience, understanding and affection,” says Sadhana Sapre, the Principal of Mookdhwani Vidyalaya.

The road ahead

More and more special schools are inviting the Art of Living to reach out to their students. Presently, 11 schools in Nashik have confirmed their participation. They will be holding courses for the students and staff alike as soon as the schools open after summer break. In Thane city, 18 more schools have introduced these courses to their students and children.

The project will conclude in July 2010, when participants from all different schools will come together to share, sing and celebrate.

Miami Schools Will Open Four New Schools

This school year Miami Schools is opening four new schools and several new facilities to cope with increased student enrollment for the 2006-2007 school year. The new schools will cater to elementary, middle and high school students.

Miami Schools has added the Ronald W. Reagan High School in the northwestern part of the district. This is an area that is expanding rapidly. The new high school will cover about 20 acres and house extremely modern facilities. The Ronald W. Reagan High School will have 250,000 square feet of classrooms, computer lab, an 800 seat auditorium, a 700 seat cafeteria, a Media Center and a gymnasium. Also on campus there will be a number of outdoor areas: fields for football, soccer, softball and baseball as well as basketball, tennis and racquetball courts.

The most innovative part of Miami Schools’ Ronald W. Reagan High School is that it is an academy based design. This means that ninth grade students will be tested and surveyed to discover their interests and areas of strengths and then be encouraged to select from three academies. The three academies on campus will be Cambridge Academy, Information and Communications Technology Academy, and the Classical Arts Academy. These academies will both have separate facilities and share common school facilities. This is part of Miami Schools continuing educational reform plan.

In the southern part of the district, Miami Schools will open the new Norma Butler Bossard Elementary School. The campus will cover 7.5 acres. The school will be equipped with a Media Center, music and art centers, a cafeteria that will accommodate nearly all the students, a three story classroom building, bilingual rooms, a well equipped science laboratory, and a Wellness Center. The Wellness Center will be available for staff and student use. This school is named for Norma Butler Bossard, who had served as the Miami Schools language arts division head for many years.

Another innovation for the Miami Schools is the newly constructed David Lawrence, Jr. K-8 Center. The K-8 Center will be a world class facility that is adjacent to Florida International University. Miami Schools will work in conjunction with Florida International University to provide professional development for Miami Schools’ teachers and Florida International University’s education majors. The K-8 Center will be able to house nearly 1,600 students. The state of the art facility will include a Media Center, computer labs, art labs, and music centers. The K-8 Center will be home to the Johnson and Wales University nutrition and cooking workshops. These workshops are part of “Healthy Eating/Healthy Choices,” a grant the school received from Health Foundation of South Florida. The cooking workshops will be open to staff and parents.

The last addition Miami Schools is the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy. This is the first all female school to be operated by Miami Schools. The Young Women’s Preparatory Academy will accommodate 450 girls in grades 6-12. The Young Women’s Preparatory Academy will have a thorough educational curriculum that will develop the academic, personal and social skills of the students. The school aims to prepare its students for postsecondary education and the world.
