How does a college graduate with an art degree find a job?
I graduated last year with a degree in general art and equine instruction/training and I can’t seem to find a job anywhere. I’ve tried all of the job websites but I rarely if ever get a reply back from the jobs I apply to. I try not to overapply but I do apply a few times a week! Help!
When I think of art and horses, I think of summer camp. What about some of the high end camps or vacation ranches- even resorts- that offer entertainment for children or have horses?
you have to get a better degree in that… take some science or technology stuff and you can be an engineer… Its a great job!!

Try a larger organization or public agency’s Communications department.

You don’t get a job with an art degree. Sorry.

Sounds like you need to be a teacher at a school with an after-school riding club. Why you aren’t getting jobs depends on what degrees you obtained. For art, you pretty much need a masters to go anywhere and definitely not in "general art". I would suggest getting your teaching license.

Excuse me if I miss the mark but it sounds like you are almost ready to be a youth camp activities director and there should be plenty of job openings coming up in the next month or so as they prepare for late spring and early summer sessions.

You need some career counseling. Possibly the student services office at your alma mater will help, but if you can’t get to them then inquire at the student services department of a nearby community college–they’ll usually help, since after all, you are their community.
Here’s the deal: you’re applying to jobs that are advertised and putting yourself out there on the web. That’s well and good and you may eventually find work that way, but over 75% of the professional positions out there are never advertised anywhere. The only way to get those jobs–and the way to max your chances at the jobs that are advertised–is to build a network of contacts in your field so that you can benefit from word-of-mouth.
The process is a little bit complicated and intensive and it varies a bit from one field to another; I’d give you an overview here if I could but it would take a chapter. Any competent career counselor will be able to teach you the ropes and monitor your progress.
Remember that right now, finding a job IS your job–you should get up in the morning, shower and dress, and start working a regular day. All day, your job is to sell something–your professional self. There’s no reason to get discouraged if you don’t succeed at first, since you’ll be doing the work.

the best way to get a job and show employers you are the one for the job is to go out there and actually apply in person for the job you want. person to person is always the best way. the employer gets to see what you look like how you act with them and what kind of attuide you have.
i recently was out of work for about 1 month and i went in to the computer and tried to apply for jobs on line and all i got was a big fat nothing. so when i was actually able to call one of the employment agentcys i asked them why with my experience couldnt i get the advertised jobs? they replyed well we usually post the jobs on the web in the early am and with in 10 min they are filled because we have a perminant regular client list and give them first option… so by the time we get on there to apply the job is already gone but the company has to advertise it for days.its sad i know but thats why looking for work on the computer isnt a good way to get a job.face to face personal contact is best. so look thru the news paper at nite and write down where the potental jobs are, get up early and go to it…. hit them all with a great resume and show then how interested you are in the job. after a few days go back and recheck on those jobs you applyed for and bug them over and over to show then how interested you are . they will eather tell you the job has been filled or they will give you the job to get you off their backs… i did this and on the week of jan 8 08 i was offered 3 jobs.i took the one i really wanted and felt comfortable with and i am now on a reg roster 5 days a week training on a big machine… its hard work but i am learning something new as i have been in the pizza business for 25 years and was very tired of that… so this new job is great.remember just because you got a degree doesnt mean you can start at the top. you have to start at the bottom anywhere you go and if that means working with horses (training) then you will have to start by shoulving horse poop for a while…. lol
im serious dear … in the art stuff you might want to consider more learning than just general as there are so many different aspects of that feild you might need to know to get a good job in what you want to do…email me if you need to… im always here.
cheers
