Motion Computing LS800 vs Apple Ipad (as an art/sketching slate on the go)

I wanted to do a video comparing these 2. I understand I am comparing apples and oranges in a way. For my use I had originally gotten my Ipad as a netbook/sketchpad replacement. The sketching capabilities were OK but without wacom and a blunt pogo stylus it made it a bit hard to use all the time. I did a bit of research online to find a slate pc that was small like the Ipad and easy to carry with full windows (came with XP and I changed it to windows 7). With all the rage of slates coming out this year I was not sure if I wanted to dish out more money I do not have. Plus with the all the slate hype I have been seeing that the trend is to drop the stylus all together to copy the Ipad which does not work for me. I needed something that I could sketch but not have to take my larger tablet pc. I love my toshiba tablet pc, but it is heavier, takes a little while to turn on and it is a much bigger device that would not fit in my purse. When I found the Ls800 it filled the perfect niche I was after plus the price was right. If you look for motion computing ls800’s on ebay you can find them for about $200+. You can also buy 12 inch models for a bit more, but I wanted small and portable.

The ls800 has worked out great in combination with the Ipad. The ipad is great to surf the net, check email, do pretty much everything I did on my netbook. But I can keep both on but draw on a wacom accurate screen and save it.

art programs I suggest that work great on the ls800:

-SAI
-Open Canvas
-Sketchbook
-Art Rage

(only art program that has shown some slight lag has been photoshop)

-Photoshop 7 and above (it can lag from time to time so I only use it for some minor things here and there. Turn off anything that might hog the memory as it will improve with the lag).

I have yet to test painter and a few others, but once I do I should be able to post about it.

I will be changing this one to an SSD for a faster start up, better battery life and cooler in general (the computer runs a bit hot, as it does not have a fan).

If you have any questions just ask.

What are universities with good art programs (non-art only colleges_?

i would like if the school was in michigan.. northeast part of US, or California
(i know i’m picky, but i dislike the south and i like big, urban schools)
i just need a college w/ a good art (interior design) course.

I know Virginia Commonwealth University has a highly accredited art program and it is not just an art school! It’s a huge school and has an urban campus, but I guess it’s considered to be in the south.
I’m actually looking for the same thing you are, so far all I have found is VCU. =/

What’s the difference between AS (Associates in Science) and AA (Associates in Art) degree?

My college has better (and more specific) offerings for AS than AA .. What is the REAL difference between the two? I already have an entry level job with a great company.. but which looks better for a job? Is it better to generalize yourself by getting a "Business Admin" degree or is it better to specialize ?
PS – My current job is as an e-commerce data assistant for an online shopping site.. But I MIGHT want to move on to accounting, or some kind of office technology.. I know my ideal job should be in an office and with computers.. What is the best degree to keep my options open?

Business Office Technology
Administrative Assistant Option AS
Executive Secretary Option AS
Legal Sectary Option AS
Secretary Option AS
General Office Option AS

its just classification, depending no the type of degree you obtain. if it is a study of art then its an aa, like theatre, english, et al, but a science, like chemistry or biology is a AS

looking for online education on gaming art courses, that don’t cost more that my house. NV?

My artistic talent would like to make a roll playing game, but the education facilities are out of reach for me. I also sculp and would like a way to reach my goal. NV

Well, if you’re looking for a degree, I haven’t seen any of the online courses that won’t cost you an arm an a leg. You really do normally pay quite a bit more for the convenience of the online programs. Now if it’s just an online course here and there that a traditional college is offering, then it’s usually not more than the on campus classes. Good luck to you!

does anyone know any good art colleges or art schools?

does anyone know any good art colleges or art schools? i am sixteen years old and i need to know about some art schools as early as i can. can anyone help me? i want to go to college!

School of Visual Arts in New York City
Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, Rhode Island
Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City

Universities with good art programs on the east coast?

I am looking to transfer to a university(not an art school) from a community college. Preferebly looking in the florida area, but anywhere on the east coast.

Universities on the east coast with very good art programs include:
- Rutgers (Mason Gross School of the Arts)
- Syracuse
- Rensselaer Polytechnic (if your thing is digital media)
- Carnegie Mellon
- Boston University
- Rochester Institute of Technology
- Virginia Commonwealth
- Tufts University (via its partnership with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston)
- Northeastern University (via its own partnership with the SMFA, Boston, as well)
- Brown University (via its relationship with RISD)
- Brandeis University
- Pratt Institute (great art school with a limited number of other majors)
- Temple U
- Drexel U
- Columbia University
- University of Georgia
- NYU
- U Pennsylvania

And these schools are pretty darn good, but not considered quite as strong as the above in most art fields:
- Louisiana State U
- U Tennessee Knoxville
- Penn State University Park
- North Carolina State U

Not a lot of very good ones in Florida, actually. The best is probably at Florida State. FSU has a great film/tv program – one of the best in the US – and their art programs are otherwise fine but not super shiny.

What job opportunities are open to me by having an associates of art degree?

I have an Associates of art degree and I am curious as to what job opportunities are open to me. I am now working in an industrial field, but I am tired of the working conditions ( heat, dangerous fumes, did I mention heat?) And I am also tired of not using my education that I worked so hard for. Please help!!!!

You wrote, "What job opportunities are open to me by having an associates of art degree?"

OK, repeat after me: "Do you want fries with that?" ;-)

Seriously, though, you could go into advertising or marketing or publicity and probably do quite well.

Good luck!… ☺
