What are the best, and cheapest graphic art programs?
I have photoshope cs3 and Carrara6, witch is a 3D art program, I am struggling with so many confusing options in photoshop, and I really enjoy Carrara6 but still have a lot to learn with Carrara, do you know of any other good programs that are fun to play with that don’t cost to much.
There are actually a couple of free programs you can download. Note that the best programs ALWAYS take some time to learn. If you already have Photoshop CS3 I would stick with it, it’s really one of the best options for digital imaging work. If you are struglling with it, there are a couple of books to get, and the advantage of books is of course you can learn at your own pace and always go back to them. One book is Photoshop CS3 for Dummies. You may already know enough to not need this book, it’s pretty basic. Three others to consider are Adobe Photoshop CS3 Visual Quick Start Guide, the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Classroom in a Book (which comes with a CD with lesson files), and Photoshop CS3 One-on-One (which also comes with a CD with lesson files). The last book is particularly hood if you like an irreverent stylel Deke McClelland, the author, has an interesting style of writing, but he can be quite fun and knows his stuff.
Also you may want to consider subscribing to some video podcasts for Photoshop. These will also have the advantage that you download them and so can watch them as many times as you want. One of the best is from Bert Monroy. You can find his podcast at http://www.revision3.com/pixelperfect. Bert is a true Master Photoshop Artist, and his style of instruction is entertaining and relaxed.
You can of course find lots of free tutorials on the internet for Photoshop, be aware that they vary in quality, and most assume you know the basics.
I can’t advise you regarding Carrera, not being familiar with it.
You also want to consider a vector drawing program. The best is Adobe Illustrator, but that’s not cheap. There is a free vector drawing program called Inkscape, which you can find at www.inkscape.org. The reason you want a vector drawing program is that vectors are resolution-independent, vs. raster/pixel-based programs such as Photoshop, which are very resolution dependent (which you know if you’ve ever copied an image off the internet at 72 dpi and tried to enlarge and print it—it looks like crap, all pixelated). Vectors can be drawn at any size and enlarged or reduced without losing quality.
Anyway, hope that info is helpful to you. If you’d like to talk some more about Photoshop, please e-mail me through my profile.
How does a college graduate with an art degree find a job?
I graduated last year with a degree in general art and equine instruction/training and I can’t seem to find a job anywhere. I’ve tried all of the job websites but I rarely if ever get a reply back from the jobs I apply to. I try not to overapply but I do apply a few times a week! Help!
When I think of art and horses, I think of summer camp. What about some of the high end camps or vacation ranches- even resorts- that offer entertainment for children or have horses?
What does it take to get into culinary art courses in college or at an Art Institute?
I have a few questions about this:
- What does it take?
- What do they teach you?
- Do they teach you about the basics, such as the equipment and the terms?
- What should you know before you take the course?
BTW: I’m posting this question in the cooking section because I know many of you who are in this section have went to culinary school or have taken culinary art courses.
Thank you in advance! ![]()
Culinary schools are usually two year degrees from community colleges or junior colleges.
Q: What does a prostitute and a community college have in common?
A: They both let anyone in!
1) What does it take? Just apply an take the placement test and you’re in. Just as long as you pay for your classes, and you keep a minimum GPA (usually 2.5), then you won’t get kicked out of the program.
2) They teach you how to run a kitchen in a restaurant.
3) Yes, they do teach the basics. Every thing they teach is the basics.
4) You need to know how to read and write. Basic math is helpful, though they will require you to take a math course.
If you have any questions about culinary school or the restaurant industry, please feel free to email me. I’ll gladly help. Sorry my answer was so blunt, but it is true. These colleges except everybody!
What are some good art schools in Seattle?
I’m planning on moving to Seattle to finally get a bachelors in something. I just don’t know what school to go to. I’ve looked at Art Institute of Seattle and they seem nice, but I heard that employers don’t really like that school. I’m trying to go into game art design. Anything that will let me either make the game or design the characters, landscape, costumes, whatever. Does anyone know of any schools out there that might have classes for that, other then AI Seattle?
I go to Digipen Institute of Technology in the Seattle-ish area. They’re really located in Redmond, WA. The Bachelor degree in Fine Arts of Production Animation is a game/production level with a little bit of everything. Concepts, animation, 3d (modeling and animating).
The staff are all motivated to teach and help everyone. We also have some notable teachers that have quite a reputation. The school isn’t very large compared to other schools, and everyone tends to know everyone.

The Great Art Pitch: Educate the Parents on the Benefits of Art
Schools are struggling and art is the answer. If you are interested in starting your own art workshop center, that’s the pitch you would want to give to the parents. As they become increasingly helpless to find the resources their kids need, your answer to their problems is the balm that soothes all ailments.
Schools graduate a high rate of students who can’t even read or write. Parents rely on schools to be able to at least accomplish that much. So, politicians have stepped in to solve the problem. Schools are mandated to meet certain requirements or state and federal money is cut. This reduces a school’s task to worry about meeting state minimum requirements rather than just simply concentrating on the kids.
As schools fail miserably to give kids what they need and parents expect, you can turn that situation around. Of course art workshops benefit people of all ages, but part of your marketing campaign should be to remind parents about the failing situation of the schools, educate parents on the benefits of art and to give them the solution.
Did you know that schools are seriously considering cutting the arts from their schools? Some initiatives exist motivated by the notion that art is extra-curricular and should not be included in the curriculum during a school day. These initiatives believe that teaching reading, writing and arithmetic are the only mission for schools. So, as the entrepreneur opening up your own art workshop center, it would be a good public service for you to educate parents on the need for art to increase student cognitive ability, personal awareness and problem solving.
Think that through! If schools are cutting art in their curriculum, what are parents to do? That’s when you let them know that your art workshop fills in the gaps where education fails them. Parents will think you deserve to be nominated for a Nobel Prize Laureate. And following in the footsteps of all of the greatest entrepreneurs in the world, you will have created the need and supplied the solution. Maybe you do deserve a Nobel Prize!
Parents aren’t very aware of the problems schools face. We spend more money on the military than we do on education. Our schools have books that are ten years old. But, art is fluid. It is ever changing. In the mind of the artist, it spawns reflection and a higher level of thinking. Art can do wonders for a child struggling in school and parents to need to know that.

Residual INcome Through Affiliate Programs and Sound Marketing
Affiliate programs are a great way to make a residual income. They allow you to take part in an established system that has already been tested and built up. All that is left to do is take control and build a down line. Combine an affiliate program with sound marketing equals a great way to make residual income.
Affiliate programs are often misunderstood. Originally the idea of building a down line and making a residual income off recruiting people was called a pyramid scheme. These pyramid schemes didn’t work because they relied solely on recruiting and not at all on selling. The basic idea behind them, though, was which resulted in the birth of the affiliate program. An affiliate program is more than building a down line of people. It includes selling real and useful products. Affiliate programs work because a person not only earns money through their down line but also through product sales.
These programs are also very easy to get started in and most are completely free with no costs to get started. Most programs offer a website and plenty of help and advice on how to get the business going. A person gets help from the people in their up line, too. The biggest challenge, though, is marketing. No matter how much help a person gets, they still have to learn the art of marketing on their own. Nobody can really teach someone how to be a successful marketer; they just have to learn it on their own.
Marketing involves learning how to use the tools provided by the program to get customers and sign others up for the opportunity. The affiliate program
will provide a person with written ads and a personal website. The website is the central hub of all the marketing efforts. The main goal should be to get people to visit the website. Once there they will be able to buy products and sign up to be an affiliate. The hard part is not getting people to buy or sign up, but to get them to the website in the first place.
A person has to take the ads and other marketing tools and place them where people will see them. One of the biggest marketing platforms is search engines. Most affiliate websites are quite, but with a little work a person can optimize it to make it rank high on the search engines. A good way to get started is to add a blog to the website and write entries everyday. These entries should be keyword rich and informative. Search engines like articles or blog entries and will assign the site a higher ranking if they have them. Another way to go is to place links and ads on other websites. A person should choose websites that compliment the affiliate program, but that are not in competition with their program. By using these marketing methods a person should be able to get a good start in marketing.
Affiliate programs and good marketing efforts can really help to get a good start in residual income. Building this type of program will take some time, but it is well worth it for the residual income that can be produced.
